Question Rear Wing Install - Inside warning light stays on.

Ok here s my problem and i am hoping someone will be able to help me out.

I have a 2000 Camry and i just installed a rear wing on the trunk. I ran the wire for the led lights on the wing to the inside 3rd brake light behind the back windshield. Now when i removed the lights from the 3rd brake light and extended the wires to the rear wing light, it works fine. But as soon as i turn the car on and give it a second, the inside warning light goes on for the lights and stays on. I heard this is a issue with all camrys, when a bulb is removed the warning light goes on.

Anyway i can get the rear wing to work and have the warning light not stay on?, cause having the wing light and the 3rd brake factory light just looks plain nasty.

Thanks for all your help.

heres the problem, LED's draw less current then regular bulbs, so when u have it hooked up with just hte LED, the car will thing the bulb is burnt out, ...so im thinkn u might have to get a resistor or some shit, i dono but i know thats definatly the problem

You may need another ground wire. Also check to make sure you don't have corrision around the light sockets and ground points.
Lots of luck

I couldn't find a ground on it , all i have is a +- wire. As for corrision, i don't see any.

i'd just leave the 3rd brake light operational and add some wires from it to the led's, they barely take any power, they shouldn't make the 3rd dimmer

measure the resistance across the brake light then across the leds

if the resistannce is the same, i dont know what to tell you

if the bulb's resistance is higher you'll have to wire a resistor in series with the positive wire before the LED. the amount should be the difference between the two resistances because, in series, resistances are just added to get an equivalent resistance. This should also help stop the led's from drawing too much current and burning out.

i am pretty sure that is the problem

LEDs aren't Ohmic devices, you cannot simply measure the resistance...

Just do what Oldman said.

Regarding Rear Spoiler Install

Hi:

You do not mention, is it a Stock Toyota Spoiler ????

My 1998 Camry did not come with a rear wing on it. I added the Toyota Stock Wing spoiler, I liked the Wing better than the TRD Lip Spoiler. The Third Brake Light was disconnected. There is a dummy replacement to replace the brake light, its used to cover the hole. Go to toyota for the part.

The problem I had was the Light was showing up on the dashboard, as in your car.

The trick here is that there is a Sensor for the Third Brake Light and a different Sensor for the added Spoiler. This is what toyota told me because alot of people add the spoiler after they get the car.

The sensor needs to be changed. The sensor is about $40-$50, I can't remember off hand.

The sensor is in the trunk area around the drivers side speakers, it blue in color. Toyota has a seperate installation site for add ons, like spoilers, alrms ect. I went there and they installed it for me. It looks great and no problems.

I Hope this Helps

Thanks

measure the resistance in the light that goes in the 3rd brakelight (OEM) and then throw a resister with the same value into the circuit with the new LED...

that should do it.

<<My 1998 Camry did not come with a rear wing on it. I added the Toyota Stock Wing spoiler, I liked the Wing better than the TRD Lip Spoiler>>

I have a 1998 with a stock wing spoiler that I would like to remove. There appears to be a bolt accessible from inside the trunk on each side. I removed the nuts from each bolt but nothing seemed to loosen. I didn't want to damage anything, so I didn't force it.

How is this wing attached? Thanks!

if the 98 spoiler is anything like the 92-95 spoiler, in addition to the long bolts/nuts that come through the trunk lid, there is also a black plastic clasp on each side of the spoiler that basically clips into place through a different hole in the trunk lid (2 holes total on each side - one for the bolt one for the plastic clip).
