It's not the IAC...what else?

My wife has a '95 camy with ~100,000mi. Recently, it developed rough cold start. It will not go into cold fast idle and shakes the whole car. If I don't press the gas pedal, it will stall out. Once the car has been driven a little, it runs perfect.

I have cleaned the IAC. It is working fine---I can feel the vacuum into the hole.

I have changed the coolant temperature sensor---no help.

I was going to change the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor.

Am I missing anything?? What else could cause the cold fast idle not to kick in?

I guess it should be one of the two sensors on the throttle body : TPS or (I don't remember the name of the other one)

Thanks for the responses.

Hmmmmm. I will have to look into your suggestions.

I didn't know that you can adjust the IAC.

Did you remove the IAC to clean it? or did you just spray into the opening and listen for the noise? I've tried the spray method and it only fixed it for 2 days... after I removed it and cleaned it thoroughly, it's been going for about 2 months now.

If you didn't remove it off the throttle body and clean it with a toothbrush... try that first. Could save you $250.

after you clean it out disconnect the negative side of your battery and leave it disconnected overnight...

i had the same problem and tried cleaning out the IAC, didnt fix the problem, left it for weeks like that.

then when i did my clutch install i disconnected the batt for one night, why that worked i dont know but give it a try.

check fuel pressure, then check intake air flow(try starting the car with the tube open to the outside air)... if that doesnt work out, take it for a tune up...

oh btw, FIRST, get the codes read... if there are any.
