removing exhaust emission filter

is it possible that removing the exhaust emission filter will provide an increase in horsepower?

a friend of mine said that its easy to remove and that it would "give you a 15-20hp boost"

i have a '91 camry dx /w 3sfe engine

thanks

there's really no such thing as an exhaust filter...

but the catalytic converter does burn a lot of the hydrocarbons

and yes if you took it out you'd get some more performance

No point. Cats are expensive, and a lot of them are not even "high-flow" as they claim.

Might as well spend the money on other parts of the exhaust system that will give you more hp.

15-20 HP would be realistic if you were running a high-HP forced induction engine, but on your car, removing that equipment would not be the most efficient or smartest things to do as far as performance is concerned.
