Gen5 05 Camry SE w Nav. Audio Distorion :(

Hi All!

My first post here whoo! Haha. I guess a short intro is in order. My name is Landin and I just recently purchased a 2005 Toyota Camry SE with the factory JBL Navigation Unit.

Overall the car is great! However the audio quality is very very poor

Here's the issue:

Everything sounds fine for the first 15 to 20 minutes of playback. I can crank the volume pretty high without noticing any distortion at all. Sounds good at this stage.

After about 20 minutes of playback the quality starts gradually decreasing, with heavy distortion happening on the mid to high end frequencies. It gets to the point where I cant even listen to music as it sounds like extremely low fi recordings done with a 5$ mic The distortion get gradually worse and is not impacted by the volume. Even at low levels it sounds horrible.

Anyone else experienced this with the factory NAV unit? The distortion goes away overnight and again doesn't appear until about 20 minutes of continuous playback. I'm running the Ipod to Car adapter, but the same distortion happens with CD's and Radio.

At first I thought it was the front speakers but pushed all audio to the rear and still noticed it. I'm hoping its not the unit and just the speakers themselves.

Any good recommendations for replacements?

Thanks!
Landin

PS. If any of you own an Xbox 360 and play Forza Motorsport 3 hit me up for credits and cars (I helped develop the game!).

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? If it's the latter, just go back and tell them. If not - it sounds almost like a firmware/software problem, no? Have you figured out which system version your nav is running? I'm curious if you could try upgrading it.
