Question what to do about my headers

if i take off my heat sheild for my headers could it cause damage to the heat mat on my hood or my hood itself? what about the radiator hose, its only a few inches from the headers.
btw, i have a 01 5s-fe.

i took the heat shield off to wrap the headers with those header wraps. And it's been about two years driving with the heat shield off. So far, no problems....

You should be able to keep the heat shield off the manifold without any problems. The main purpose of the header wrap is to keep the exhaust temp down a few degrees in theory making the engine not as susceptible to heak soak. Honestly you don't really need the heat shield because headers don't have one so why should the stocker.

I would have to consider this point from a personal safety perspective and that heat shielding is there to protect your hand(s) in case you accidentlally put it on the header area when you lean over it.

The header wrap insulates the piping well enough to offer that protection, and on top of that, the headers is a good tool rest, that is level to place things like a bottle of motor oil, screwdrivers, etc.

Not really. I've managed to burn/boil various fluids on that thing. It might help somewhat in that it provides more surface area for heat disipation, but since it's aluminum, it's not a very good choice to protect your hands. Toyota even put a warning on it. At least they did on my 3S-FE.

I dunno about thermal wrap, but it sounds like it would be a better insulator than aluminum.
