strut mounts

Getting prepared to change my noisy strut mounts on my 97 Camry XLE. Actually as the weather warms up, the mounts are quieting down, but I know I have to get under the car this spring and change them out.

Anybody here done this? I have read enough about it, and am ready to jump in with my buddy and tackle this. If you have done this, any surprises that you'd like to share?

Looks straight forward enough, just take my time.

just watch out for those springs. don't get only one spring compressor. you can also rent the compressor from autozone.

Will need a good spring compressor, handle with care when compressed, easy to take strut off of car but must compress and hold spring to replace mount.

I Recently Installed (4) New Tokico Struts On My 1997 Camry LE V-6

- New Struts At This Time? You Might Concider Them

-I agree be carefull with the coil springs

- Be Sure You Have The "Grooves" Lined Up (Strut Rod To Upper Strut Mount)

- New Dust Boots

- Keep Parts Clean on Assembly

- ABS Sensor/Wires Don't Damage Them $

- The Rear Struts (Top-Nuts) Are Fun!

Good Luck!

My Camry Has Been Quiet So far!

I recently replaced my suspension system. I put tokico struts. Eiback prokit springs. KYB strut mounts.
But its still noisy. I went over everything again to make sure it was screwed tight. I've put about 300 miles on it sofar cuz i thought it just needed to be broken in. Any suggestions?

My car needs strut mounts badly. But as mentioned before, they seem to have quieted down since the weather is getting warmer. .

On my '00 LE i4, I've had TRD (made by Eibach) and Tokicos for about 3 1/2 years (close to 60K miles) now - all the time with noises. Have changed strut mounts 3-4 times, including KYB once - no luck.

Since I recently had to start driving a lot more in the city, over potholes, I decided to change back to stock springs. I just finished the front today and kept the Tokicos with stock springs. I can tell you, with the same strut mounts that I had with the TRD springs, I no longer seem to have clunking noises !!! I think the TRD stprings (same for Eibach) are probably the problem...

I should be done with the rear of the car probably tomorrow and after I put a few more miles on, I'll let you know if this helped for sure, or is it just an illusion . If my experiment shows that the problem is the springs, I'd say (unless you have an installation problem) your only option might be to go with Tein H-Tech or S-Tech springs. These are not progressive and are somewhat softer than Eibach in order to have a drop (the S) and at the same time have a quiet ride.

Another observation, the latest strut mount from Toyota (with oval opening on the top) is better than the redesigned previous version - it is firmer and less noisy.
