Solve the missfire problem first. That may have been what killed the cat. When an engine misfires, the unburned fuel that entered that cylinder is forced out the exhaust valves and through the exhaust system. That exhaust system include the cat converter. All that unburned fuel over time will destroy the converter. It is made to convert small amounts of unburned hydrocarbons in to harmless substances. Large amounts of unburned fuel (pure hydrocarbons) are more than the cat was ever intended to handle.
