What to use for filling in side moldings and rust?
Last summer i had rust forming on my rear fenders so i sanded it down as far as i could go, still rust was shown because rust ate through the entire metal. I then used Bondo body filler and let it dry, then sanded it down with higher and higher grits. It looked pretty good for a first time and after i color matched it it looked like it came like that from the factory. Now after a winter with sand and salt the bondo on the rear fenders is cracking and the rust is making progress through the bondo! Now the question i have is i want to redo the fenders so should i use bondo or should i use fiber glass? Are there any steps i should have done to prepare the area before applying the bondo?I also want to fill in my side molding, i got rust on my doors and by filling in my side moldings so i would like to know what to use when doing this? Thanks, your info will be very informative.
i already replaced my too front fenders over the summer so im all set with the front, but its the rear fenders that are needing to be fixed. The only way i can think of to fix the rear is either bondo or fiber glass. How well does fiber glass hold up and where can i purchase it?
My front passenger door started rusting on the bottom... busted out this shit...TOTALLY stopped whatever was happening. Get this stuff but also get rust neutralizer and whatnot. I gotta fix the rust on my RR 1/4 panel and repair my rocker panels after school is over so I'll be in the same boat. Also don't use Bondo b/c it cracks, use I think it's called Tiger Hair or something like that. This stuff is much more solid and doesn't crack.

thanks 87camry5speed. Do they sell por51 rust preventer in stores? If so what stores? Also where can i purchase Tiger Hair? What kind of material is it? Is it a plaster like bondo? thanks
PoR2GeEzCamry I don't know... I think you'll have to go through their website, I never see this stuff in stores... remember it's kinda pricey but well worth it. It's a true miracle paint
Tiger Hair... Have had this lying around for years, my ol' man was the one who bought it. I'll check with him where it came from and post back tonight for you. It's not a true bondo-style plaster but it has fiberglass 'hairs" in it which make it much stronger. It just doesn't crack. I'll be using this stuff on my car when I do the bodywork.

yea dude, definitely tell me where your pops got the stuff... i'm really interested to know... thanks..
the "tiger hair" is a polyester filler like bondo with the addition of fiberglass strands already mixed into it. you can find it at paint supply stores or a local automotive store like autozone or advanced auto parts.....whatever is in your area. i would also use the same stuff to fill the moldings, just make damn sure u sand/grind off ALL of the paint, and scuff it up good with something like a 24 grit disc. apply the filler in layers, dont try to fill in the moldings w/ one swipe. be sure to weld up any holes that the molding was attached with. also with the tiger hair, you will have to finish it off w/ a thin layer of normal body filler, like bondo. because of the fiberglass, it is hard to spread smoothly. not a big deal though, you will be able to do it w/o a problem.
thanks for the replys guys. they've helped me a lot. I was just wondering if theres any other type of rust preventive products that are cheaper then por15 that are sold in stores?
