this is a question for my '02 solara...
i know hyperwhites don't really make any functional difference compared to the stock besides pretty much aesthetics, but when i bought them from pep boys i asked them which ones were compatible and they told me to get the 9003s...i just want to know that these will work fine with my car before opening them up, otherwise i'm just gonna return them and replace my bulbs with whatever you guys think is a better choice. thanks in advance...and sorry for the newbie question. (oh, on a side note, with the JBL system, it's ok to get a new head unit right? i just don't want to blow out the speakers like...ahem...i once did to my old car...haha).
If I'm not mistaken the 2002 Solara went back to the separate high/low beam bulb. 9003 is a single high/low bulb, so chances are it's the wrong bulb. pre '02 Solara's and 97-99 Camry's used the 9003 bulb. (also HB2, H4, whatever you want to call it)
Don't open it yet! Check your owner's manual.
BTW, while you're returning those bulbs, check out the Sylvania Xtravision bulbs. They're a little cheaper than the superwhites and actually seem to perform a *tiny* bit better in terms of light output...
(EDIT) Your speakers should be able to handle an aftermarket unit just fine. Even my non-JBL speakers in my 99 Camry served me well with a Kenwood unit for a year until I finally swapped them out.

As for your question about switching out your OEM stereo, those JBLs' will hold up fine with any after market dash you get. Especially if you got the sport package system with the componet fronts. If you ever add an amp, that is when you might want to think about replacing them
just a follow-up, i returned the bulbs i had and found that sylvania came out with a new line called silverstar, so i bought a pair of those. i haven't installed them yet tho. http://www.sylvania.com/auto/silverstar.htm

They're expensive, but they should be great. Let us know how it turns out.
i installed the silverstars yesterday and they work pretty well. at first i was like aww crap cause things are packed in kinda tight at the front of the car and one of the bulbs rubbed against my knuckle while i was installing. but i went driving at night and they seemed fine. i definitely like them better than my oems. also, they're not really coated with that blue stuff but it's more like a light rainbowish-amethyst tint so it doesn't look all rice and there's no blue reflection against the lamps. no offense to ricers tho. i just didn't want that look.
one question tho...i know the stock low beams were 55w max, but since i needed the 9006s for my car, the specs are 60w max on the silverstars...is that going to melt my harness or anything? thanks a bunch everyone.
oh ok, thanks. i think i'll go get a set for the fogs and high beams too then. i really like the way they look. oh and you were right, woshiagni, when i took the oem lights out they were sylvania. haha
Damn, I wish Sylvania would release a set of H4/9003 Silverstars. I will eventually change out my current Hipers to that but if there will be no plans of a release...i'll just have to settle with the trusty Cool Blues. I have yet to swap out my OEM sylvania 9006's in my fogs with the 9006 CB from my Avalon.
I really hate dual filament bulbs...I wonder if I should do a front fascia update like TMS did to the Solara Pace Car!

The '02 Solara front is awesome but the rear is... um... well, I don't like it.
Dual filament bulbs also mean a little more aggravation when doing an HID swap. As for H4/9003 Silverstars, I emailed Sylvania earlier this year and they told me early summer for a release date.
