Help with Dash Lights

I've been working on updating some of the dash lights in my Gen 3 from the stock clear, and clear with green caps to blue lights. But I ran into a small problem...trying to figure out exactly what lights these are. Does anyone happen to know exactly what the number for these lights are *the lights behind the AC/Heater knobs*. Also, does anyone know where I could possible find either some blue caps to go over the clear lights, or just blue lights. If I have to I'll just paint the stock lights blue in color, just afraid of the paint burning off. Anybody got some ideas?

check here Dash light questions
Do a search this topic has been talked about a lot! The smallest bulbs i have yet to find anywhere i guess your best bet is to go to a junkyard and pull some from clusters. There is a link for the small condoms in the above thread though.

Hey bro just go to a junkyard and look for a 87-91 legend coupe or sedan. The bulbs for the gauges are the same size as the ones behind your HVAC controls. Not only that they already come with blue caps on em. BTW 88-92 corolla coupes have 194 bulbs with blue caps on em stock behind the gauges. Out here they're really plentiful so just grab as many as you can. Don't paint bulbs no matter how tempting it may seem because the fackin paint burns off and turns the bulbs all brown and nasty. I made that mistake with some brake lights and they burnt out really quick too. Hope this helps ya.

Yea, Thanks alot. I'm going to run down to San Antonio Pick N Pull this weekend and see what I can find. Hopefully I'll find those lights! Im not so worried about the cluster lights being blue because I'm just going to pull the green's out anyways when I replace it with the new indiglo guages that come in soon *I hope*. But yea, thanks alot!

Instead of using bulbs you can use some small blue leds (3mm).

You'll need to hookup a resistor in series with the leds though, otherwise you'll fry em.

You can buy them from lsdiodes.com for 45 cents a piece and their bright.

Pic of a project I did on my computer using their blue 3mm leds:

P.S. Pic was taken at night without a flash, so you can see how bright they are.

I too had the same problem wih my gen 3. I got blue LEDs off ebay and put them in. Its a pain because you have to wrap the filament around the metal connectors. I messed something up becasue only half of them work, i havent had the time to fix it yet. most of them are 194 or 74 size numbers

i painted the bulbs behind my climate controls on my gen 4 with testors transparent candy apple red ( i love that stuff!) about 6 months ago and they have yet to look crappy/burnt ....

leds are a pain to wire to that...hell the climate controls on the gen 4 are a major pain to get to in the 1st place, i couldn't imagine trying to get leds back there too

good luck,
Keri

Yea, I've already been working on putting some blue LED's in my car already. I work with them often enough figured I'd put soem of them to work in my car. I'm not so sure though about trying to put led's behind the panel though. To be able to fit in the resistor, led, and wiring would be a pain enough let alone try and get it to light up the right areas. I may try it though....
