CV boot leaking oil

Just went to the garage and changed my summer tires and they found out that my CV boot was leaking oil.. They are charging me $280CDN, I'm just wondering if the price is reasonable or not.. thanks

my boots break all the time. Its very annoying. I payed around 200 us dollars to fix them. I stopped after the 2nd time in a year.

Hey neon, make sure that your boots are severly ripped because if they are dirt could have potentially gotten into the cv joint bearings. If this happened then just changing the boots isn't gonna do a damn bit of good. As long as your car doesn't vibrate strangely and doesn't make clicking sounds in turns then you're ok and can just replace the boots. Just letting ya know cause i just had to replace both of my driveaxles and it was fackin expensive.

A CV joint boot should not cost more than $25. Replacing the boot is max. 1 hr job. Do not neglect you CV joint. If the boot is leaking it means that is gone and needs to be changed, otherwise you run the risk of loosing you cv joint. Worst case scenario: if you turn left and you hear a clicking noise it means that your right cv joint needs to be fixed. These days you can get reconditioned complete transaxles for CD$ 150. I hope you only have to change the boot. Good luck
