But to put on the aftermarket one, it is preferable that you cut down the shifter stalk so it would sit lower. Rayray has pics of the install process. Do a search with keyword: Levoc.

I've also been looking for an aftermarket shifter for my 93 le automatic but the overdrive button is giving me a bunch of problems. first of all shift knobs with the od buttons are hella expensive and second of all, they're ugly if any one has put on an aftermarket shift knob for an automatic, contact me.
there isn't many automatic shift knobs out there with o/d button available in the first place. one of the nicest ones out there, that some of us have, is by Levoc.
here's a sample of what they look like.

there's also some knbs out there for A/T but without the o/d button. you can still use those and just run the wires to a switch that you can mount on your dash/center console. OR... you can just wire the o/d wires together permenantly and have o/d on at all times (most of us have it on all the time anyways).

Ray Ray...Is that the shifter thats in your car? And...Do you have to cut down the shifter pole to install it??
That's the one that he has on, though I'm not sure if its the carbon fiber one. Yes he did have to cut the stalk. As I indicated on the post above, he has pics of how to do that.

yea... i have the carbon fiber one. and like Jeff said, i did cut the shaft about 2.5 inches in order for it to sit lower. i used a hacksaw but it would probably be easier to use a pipe cutter. they're not that expensive... like $5 - $10 at Home Depot. here's a pic of one on a brake line.
and if you leave o/d on all the time then you really don't need the button. i'm not quite sure but... you could just leave the wires disconnected and it will always be "ON" (someone please confirm that cuz i'm not too sure) and just get one of those top button shifters or the push down shifters (i think Razo & Ractive makes some nice affordable ones)
you can find a few pics of my install here:

I use it to maintain speed on some downhills, and also when I'm going uphill to avoid gear-hunting between 3rd and 4th.
Also, if you're like me and you're just itching to blow up your transmission, use it and then 2nd gear instead of your brakes to help you slow down at stop lights. =)
