I have a 2000 LE V6 Camry with 63k miles. How often should the timing belt be replaced? Is it true that if the timing belt breaks while you are going 60 mph that your engine will be wreaked?
Had my timing belt replaced at 50k cause I had to have the main seal replaced. Toyota did it for FREE! Might be a while before it breaks I got 63k now, So i can expect it to happen at 150k.

Timing belt change every 60,000 miles is recommended by the dealer.
I didn't know that Toyota changed the belt material and now recommends every 90,000 miles. O well I'll still change mine every 60,000 miles, better safe then sorry.
As for the 1MZ-FE being non-interference. Most Toyota engines are non-interference, theres a few that are interference though.

Question
What maintenance is required on my timing belt?
Answer
If your vehicle is a 1999 model year or newer and is equipped with a timing belt, you should replace it every 90,000 miles or six years, whichever comes first.
For all other Toyota vehicles equipped with a timing belt, we recommend that the timing belt be inspected with the other drive belts at 60,000 miles or four years, whichever comes first, and every 15,000 miles thereafter and replaced as necessary. Because the costs involved with inspecting the timing belt may be similar to those of having it replaced, many customers may find it more cost effective to replace the timing belt at 60,000 mile intervals.
