No it doesn't have to be, but as far as I know K&N are one of the best filter brands out there, you can search what else is out there. I think I would be getting K&N my self for my CAI.

Now are you thinking "cold-air intake" like the ones that they sell for $200 that are just a colored pipe and a better filter, or are you talking actual cold-air intake like routed down in your air dams?

A place like Meineke (if they have them where you live, and yes I know they do exhaust) could custom bend the piping for you. Get exact fit and angle. You can buy a MAF and filter to match.

They don't do mandrel bending, which is what you want for your CAI. I went there to get a quote for custom cat back, they sure are pricey.

Weird, the one I went to did. They were cheap too. Where do you live that it's so much? I priced an exhaust there, they gave me a great deal. $300 for a custom bent Y-pipe (mandrel bent), with two glass packs and 3.5" chrome tips. That's a great deal in my mind. Each shop is prolly different. Some may not have the techs to do it.

Well they quoted pressure bent piping for about 75 bucks more. I went to some private shop and they guy said he'll do it for 125. Then I decided I better to with mandrel instead of pressure or else it's pointles to do anything. So I found some performance shop 50 miles away from Chicago. They got something close to mandrel bending machine. So I'll go there. I'm getting my magnalfow muffler and resonator on 14th Right the day before my bday! What a nice present I got for my self.
We don't have a lot of performance shops around here for some reason. So that sucks.

Oh, wow! 50 miles away. Man, up here, I have at least 2 shops in 3 miles that could bend it for me. I'd say search some other Meineke's in your area. I was talking with the guys, and what I found out is it takes a long time for their techs to work up to custom bending. So some shops don't have people that can do it. Check out some other ones man. They do good work.
Whats the difference in the bending styles? I don't exactly know how either works. I just know to go with mandrel from word of mouth.
