disk brake question

i just put on new rims and noticed the front has disk brakes, but the back has drum brakes

what's the difference between the two and how much would it be to change the drum into a disk brake?

Should i also change the rotors in the front and back to performance rotors? which ones would fit the gen4 camry?

thanks everyone

i don't think the dealer will do the drum to disc conversion for you. since you have drums in the back, you must have the 4cyl. the v6's have all disc around. i think someone a while back on TN did the conversion themselves.

the difference?

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/drum-brake.htm - drum
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/disc-brake.htm - disc

performance rotors? don't go for the cross-drilled. there was a huge debate post on that, and it seems you should only do them if you just want the looks. slotted is alrite, but it's not worth the money.

ebaymotors.com has rotors for the camry 4cyl (well, i've seen them before, not sure if they're on right now)

for a mostly stock car, which you will not track, and especially a 4banger, it'll just be about looks.....which are important too....

you should be able to get most of the parts from a junkyard and if you have the proper tools you could do it yourself. but like everyone else said it would be mainly for looks because your back brakes only account for like 25% of your stopping power. refer to kocho's link and you will get all the info you need. i'm gonna do this mod sometime just to make my rear look better. i think it looks stupid with disc's on the front and drums on the rear. especially when your rollin on 18's.

do you know if there is a difference between 4cyl and 6cyl rear discs? or if the hubs are different? like... are the axles different like the fronts are or no? cause i was thinking of just throwing a hole wheel hub on...

Ehhhmm do any 4cyl. have rear dic brakes ? If there are I would have said the axles should be the same since you can easily put V6 discs on them...

On Gen 4 at least the v6 and i4 hubs and axels in the rear seem to be the same - I had no problems putting the disk brakes from a '00 v6 on my '00 i4... I don't think if in the US i4 gen4 Camrys come with rear disks at any trim. "Throwing a whole wheel hub on" is probably the easier option, although I chose to keep my old one and just replace the backing plate and everything else...

The front, some i4s have smaller disks than the v6, some have the same.
