Engine died, Help

Hi guys. My engine recently passed away. The compression is gone and i found out that there was an oil leak that left me oil-less. So probably my pistons and other engine components have been overexposed to lots of heat and are making lots of noises. For this reason, i am looking for and engine that i could fit into my '97 camry i4 manual trans.

Can you guys help me with engine compatibility? Which year engines can i fit, must i make lots of modificitations if the engine i buy is from and automatic car (mine is manual)...

Also, does anyone have connections to a garage in Montreal QC??

Thanks guys

I guess the real questions is what type of engine are you looking for? Do you want another I4 or do you want a V6 and if I'm not mistaking I think you can put an Inline-6 in the camry's. But I guess its about preference.

Sorry to hear

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there should be a compatability issue with auto vs manual.

You could look for a replacement engine at www.car-part.com

Hmm, maybe Ben or Mox could give you hand or recommend a shop? They're both from Montreal.

Sorry about the engine dude.

I think you should as much as possible stay within your year range. Anyway you can't have the 1992-93 engines, that for sure since these years come with distributors, you have a distributorless version. I would have a look at www.car-part.com as Phi is saying, there are many recyclers from Canada on it.
Other option (and that's what I would recommend) : have your engine rebuilt (or rebuild it yourself), it often doesn't cost much more than a used one and at least you know what you pay for and shouldn't have another engine failure within the next few years (that's what I got...) There are some good places to get rebuild kits (I don't remember them) and it is perhaps not a bad idea to consider doing it yourself as it is not that difficult

Good luck !!! (I know your pain believe me )
