About overdrive

ok, dudes, my dad has been nagging at me for this overdrive problem.

When the panel says:"o/d off" does it mean the overdrive off or the overdrive is on and the car wants you to turn it off??

it means what it says, that the o\d is off. over drive is the final gear if it's off than you only have 3 gears with it on you have four. so tell him to stop pushing buttons and leave it on.

for city driving (constant go and stop) then you can turn it off so the tranny doesn't work more by putting the 4th gear in

When your on the highway, its a good idea to leave the over drive off(4 gears). When you're in the streets, overdrive on (3 gears) is sufficient. I heard that leaving overdrive on while you're on the highway puts more pressure on your engine.
