hi,
i'm considering to upgrade my 94 Camry exhaust system.
first i like to admit that i do not know much about the exhaust system at all. but i want to know what component should i look for when changing the exhaust system. from using the SEARCH button, all i know that i'm suppose to use 2.25" diameter of piping. that's all.
this is what i think the exhaust system looks like (CORRECT ME if i'm wrong):
engine -> header -> downpipe -> cat -> midpipe -> resonator -> another pipe -> muffler
i want to do this as QUIET as possible. by quiet mean like no buzzing or "farting" sounding exhaust. DEEP, THROATY and SMOOTH sounds is what i'm trying to achieve. Also, i know mendrel bend is the way to go, but there's no shop with a mendrel bend machine here.
MY QUESTION is what sections are changed in a typical exhaust upgrade?? and how can i make the new exhaust system as quiet as possible? and what brand of muffler? i dont' think i can afford Apexi such brand names, has anyone tried the DynoMax products?
I know it's a lot of question, but if someone can help me it'll be great!!
THANKS!

You are correct in your exhaust diagram. Typically, people start off with and exhaust from the cat back. If you ditch the resonator, your exhaust will be louder. If you keep it, you lose a little airflow. The exhaust tone will be determined mostly by the muffler you choose. And lastly, 2.25 diameter is fine for a 4cyl, you might want to go slightly larger if you have a V6. I hope I was of some assistance. Good luck to you!
Well tell you the truth man, there are a lot of different setups. If you want to go for the deep tone sound then go with Intake, 2.2.5 piping all the way to a apex n1 muffler. I think that is the best deep tone out there, not too loud and doesn't sound like shit. If you want performance, you'll get a slightly high pitch noise but deep tone is still there, this is cause by the installation of headers.
5sfte: your reply was very helpful. i've always thought that it is the piping the determines the loudest and the tone, however it came out to be the muffler itself. for a V6 engine, probably 2.5" diameter pipe will be better right??
a94autoCamry: yeah, i was thinking of magnaflow, but i've been hearing lots of ppl saying magnaflow is loud, but i've never heard it in person.
Calvin327: yeah sadly that's probably the best solution for a deep yet quiet tone setup. however, i will have to pay a big premium.

from seeing your sig, i see that your camry is a v6..
so yea definitely go with 2.5 inch custom mandrel bent piping...
and get stainless steel pipes if you can for the cat back..
also i think AEM makes a CAI for ur car, so that will also contribute to the noise/sound ...
oh yea 1 more question....how are your kyb gr-2 struts working??
a94autoCamry:
sadly, where i live there's no shop that offers mandrel bend, cuz they said a mandrel bend machine is 3x the price of a regular pipe bending machine.
I'm just going for a deep and sporty tone. Nothing much louder then OEM exhaust, preferrably the sound of STi or 350Z hehehe
the GR2 are riding pretty good, i think they have settled down a bit, because when i got the car back from the shop, it seems to be a bit higher. but now it's just back to original height. they ride firm, solid yet comfortable.
