Question camry ignition igniter

hey i have a mate with problem with his camry, i just joined up to the forums cause you blokes seem like the toyota guru's, iam a bit of a ford guru myself so i dont know much about camry systems anyways..

he has a problem where under heavy throttle in low - mid rev range the engine has an intermet problem where is has a jerking sensation like its missing every now and again

i checked his plugs they are fine, i checked dizzy cap it had alot of corrosion built up on the terminals i cleaned that off but the problem is still there, he took it to his mechanic before me and he had his injectors cleaned , he recons it did fix the problem but it slowly came back, iam thinking he didnt boot it as much after they were cleaned because he had more power there cause they were pretty blocked. I recently replace the fuel filter.

so anyways i was looking for the ignition model and i found an ignition igniter in the wiring diagram and iam guess that does the same thing, iam just wondering is there some sort of test procedure i can take to test this thing because its expensive for a new one and i told him iam not sure if that would fix it, so i would like to know if it is stuffed before it comes out so is there any testing i could do?

and what is the go with the igniton coil by reading the wiring diagram is seems to be inside the dizzy is that right, how do i test the coil any ideas there,

if its not the coil or dizzy any ideas what else it could be, i did the diagnostic check and the code ' air conditioner load senor ' came out so i didnt worry about that.

its a 11month 88y model camry, 4 cyl. 2.0l and the 3S-FE engine
so..

how can i test the igniter?
how can i test the coil?
what else would cause missing under high load in mid revs?

any thoughts would be good thanx

How do the spark plug wires look? The date is on them. If they are oe '88 wires, i'd prob change those. I'm not too familiar with the 3s-fe and not sure if it has a dist. cap/rotor. Check that too maybe. Also may the problem be in the transmission?

oh sorry not used to australian terminology Id recommend replacing them, not just cleaning them. How did the wires look?

What the hell is this language he's using?
Just kidding. I've had this problem before and it sounds like plug wires to me.

Using an ohmmeter, measure coil primary resistance between the ignition coil terminals. Resistance cold should be approximately:

0.38 - 0.46 ohms

Measure coil secondary resistance between the ignition coil terminals and the distributor cap high tension lead terminals. Resistance cold should be approximately:

2S-ELC and 3S-FE; 1983-88; 7.5 - 10.5 K ohms

3S-FE; 1989-91; 7.7 - 10.4 K ohms

Also check the coil to see if its cracked or leaking oil.
