I searched the camry forum and really only found one helpful post about this button.
My car for some uknown reason wouldnt let me shift out of park today when I pulled into a Quick Trip Gas Station, and I had previsouly heard about this button so I quickly popped off the cover and preceded to push it in to see if it worked, and of course it did.
My question is though, Is there a way to engage this lock accidently are on purpose.
Because on the one post I did find on this board about it one person said the reason the button is placed there is to shift the car without having to depress the brake button.
I mean is there any way I could have done something to accidently lock the shifter, if so what?, and how do I unlock it, without having to push the button in every single time I want to shift out of park?

check your brake switch located underneath the brake pedal. It may need to be replaced. Easy way to check if it works it have a buddy tell you if the brake lights come on when you depress the pedal.
It sounds like what you found is the switch that goes on the parking brake pedal or handle that turns on the "brake" light in the dash, to tell you that the ebrake is on, I think that's what spydrvnm meant. What you're looking for will probably be listed under "stop light switch" or something similair.
The stop light switch picture looks like whats right infront of the pedal. When you depress the pedal the switch pops out, when you let go of the pedal it pushes it back in turning whatever it does off.
There both cheap parts so I probably just take it to the dealer ask them to replace both since I havent came to the conclusion of witch part it is.

Dont Forget to check your brake light fuse! Pop out the little coin tray thats to the left of the steering wheel, the fuse for the brakes lights are in there.

Thanks 88 LE, and thanks to everyone else, even the ones who didnt post.
Does anybody know if it's really as simple to install as it looks.
I looked at mine and it looks like it just screws in.
Is that all to it?
I was just wondering about the Netural Saftey switch because my dealer said the stoplight switch, and the netural saftey switch both will most likely need to be replaced since they come in a kit together.
And I was just why since I thought the netural saftey switch did exactly what 88 LE said so I asked just to make sure.
Seems like they are just trying to get some additonal money.
(Netural Saftey switch is not cheap at all.)
