Anyone know how to remove the check engine light on a:
1999 Toy Camry 2.2L 4 CYL
Before I had installed my Injen Intake I removed the factory filter and added an AEM filter which made my "check engine" light come on, but now since I have all the wires and everything connected, it still wont go away, I know everything is running fine, tried reinstalling the Injen Intake a couple times to make sure it was installed fine. Not sure what the problem is, I know I gotta remove a fuse somewhere?? Maybe, not sure, ANY HELP will help alot. Thanks.
All I know is my dad has a OBDII code reader, and it is awesome. $100 from parts store. Tells you whats wrong.
When we went in for a smog check, this lady in a Audi A4 1.8T pulls up, and they plug it in, and thats it. As long as the computer says no faults, they car passes! Very cool. She was in and out in 5 minuites!

Originally posted by tl7881 what do you mean, take it to like Kragens? AutoZone? and have them pull the codes?
Either of those will probably do it for free. We have Checker here, (same as Kragens) and they do it for free. They just plug the reader into your car and it'll load the problem codes, then they take it inside and hook it up to a computer and it prints out a detailed report.
Depending on the error, the check engine light may persist (stay on after you shut off the ignition), so even if you have your wires hooked up correctly now, it could be the old error that's causing the CEL to come on.
Try pulling your EFI fuse to reset the computer, then if the light comes back on, get it diagnosed. Most places will charge you one hour of labor (at least $60) to get it diagnosed, so just buy a OBDII scanner for $65 online and scan it yourself.
(Kragen/Autozone/whatever in CA does not scan CEL codes)
EDIT: Just did a quickie search on fleabay, looks like you can pick up a cheapo scanner to display the codes for less than $60 incl. shipping. Of course, that's only true if you avoid items with "MAC" and "Snap On" in the title.
If you don't know where the EFI fuse is just disconnect the negative pole from the battery for 10 seconds to reset the computer. If the light come back on again, have it check
Yes, like hclee25 says, you can also pull your (-) battery terminal to reset the comp.
On your (our) 99 Camrys the EFI fuse is either located in the fuse block behind the battery (in the engine compartment) or behind the drop down coin tray inside the cabin just underneath your outside mirror adjustment switch. (Sorry, can't remember, but it's labeled! )
If im correct in quoting what i've heard a couple times...The engine computer doesn't know that you have an intake so it thinks there is something wrong.
yea if u wanna check, go to autozone, they do it for free and tell us what the code is, i had same problem but got it resolve
if u just wanna turn the check engine light off, try removin negative side on ur battery for 15-20 mins, then put it back on and start the car, cel will be gone
