NGK, Bosch, and Magnacore make good spark plug wires.

As for spark plugs, Ive always gone with Bosch Platimum series

Bosch is kool for what it is. Iridium spark plugs are what you are looking for. For headers, you can use the bosal brospeed headers or the pacesetter I think. I know for sure the headers from Brospeed cost like 312 at www.nopi.com

The problem with these headers is that they fit, but need minor mods. Such as welding on a 02 bung for the second 02 sensor and welding the downpipe.

I just got some Bosch Platinum +4's tonight, I'm going to throw 'em in tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know how they work out for me. I may buy the wires tomorrow, we'll have to see what my check is like. :p

As for the header? I'd say bosal.

I wouldn't rec. bosch plugs in toyota's. I've seen lots of problems with bosch in toyota engines. Toyota reccomends ngk or denso. Platinums for your engine.

What problems?
I'm interested, if you could expand on what you mean.

When I worked as a service writer I remember a couple of times when camrys and other toyotas came in for a misfire, turned out that they had bosch plugs installed. Not only bosch are bad for toyotas but so are pretty much anything besides denso or ngk.

Bosch are designed for german cars.
Champion are oe in dodge/chrysler, except for mitsubishi engine models.
Gm models use ac delco but autolite can also be used and is oe in some models.
Honda uses ngk
mitsubishi uses ngk or denso
nissans use ngk or denso.

some people haven't had any problems with bosch but i would rather get what i know is the right one. The denso cost a little less than ngk. I decided to use ngk. I would have used denso but ngk was what originally came in my motor and it was readilly available by our supplier.

wow... do you know the specific plugs they were using?
I apologize, but I'm trying to figure out if this is fanboyism (no offense) or if it is a valid claim, as well as if it were just a lower-line of bosch plugs or if it is just bosch's QC in general.

They come with a warranty, so I think I'm pretty safe on that one.
I also made sure to get the top of their line (plat +4), so I'm hoping I should be good.

It's odd trying to quantify claims, coming from computer forums over to car forums.

Re: Spark Plugs and Wires

Hi:

My 1998 I4 has Denso Iridium Spark Plugs, IK20.

Vitek Wires, comes in colors and Fits the Toyota Stock Wire Looms. Not cheap, $129.00

As far as Headers, The Bosal Header from Bosal Performance, will fit, but there is Modification that needs to be made by a muffler shop.

For me, I am not one for making Modifications like that, instead, I bought a New Toyota Stock Manifold, Online Price $117.00, had it Jet-Hot Coated, $95.00. Looks Awesome

I also had the Manifold Cover Chromed, so I wanted to utilize it with the stock manifold with the bolt holes on it.

It looks like a header, but runs a whole lot cooler with a couple of extra HP under the hood.

Its all a learning process, 90% of what I bought for my camry, I learned from this site. Great Resource !!!

Check the pictures on CarDomain.com:

Hope this Helps

I don't remember what specific plug they were using, but they were platinums. Ask some mechanics who have been in the industry for a while and they'll agree not to use bosch on toyota.

From what I remember , and did a post before (+/- 2 weeks ago) was the toyota ignition system is designed for platinum or iridium tipped (+) and platinum or iridium electrode (ground) for them to work better, because 2 plugs fire simeltaneously. This is 3rd hand info !

I tested and saw 1&4 is fired whenever they are neaar TDC, so 1 may be for combustion but 4 is on the exhausssst stroke. Similar for 2&3. I used a low tech method... new plugs installed, push in old plugs and ground them, take out gas pump relay (EFI relay) and asked someone to crank engine. I was just curious.

My guess is that depending on the type of driving, lead foot stop and go(hiway traffic jam ), or "city driving" can havecarbon build up on up the plugs sooner than cruising or constant speed driving. A highway cruise of like 50 minutes can burn it off though.

My cousin, a mechanic sometimes take cars that have been babied. He will pull the plugs out and look and has them driven on the highway at 130-140km/h for a while if they are coked. If preformance returns then that is the culprit, otherwise it may be
other problems.

So the Bosch plugs may not be suited for 'ALL' types of users and operating conditions.

For spark plug wires go with Sparkco wires. 9.3 mm thick and very reliable. Only problem is that you have to order it from Canada, runs around 80 bucks.
