2010 Camry Accelerator Pedal

My 2010 Camry LE required the recall where the "Shim" was installed in the Accelerator Pedal to prevent sticking. After it was done, I was having a problem making smooth starts from a stopped state. The acceleration would start at the slightest touch of the gas pedal. There was no "free play" when pressing the pedal, causing the acceleration to take place as soon as I touched the pedal. I had the dealer test drive it, and they offered to replace the pedal to see if a new one worked any better. I had this done, and the new pedal works great. I can now feel the pedal with my foot without it immediately accelerating. There is just enough "free play" to allow me to feel the pedal without a quick acceleration.
I remember reading on the Toyota Web Site that they would replace the suspect accelerator pedals with a new one only after the shim fix was installed, and the customer was not satisfied how it felt to drive. I guess this is why they offered to replace it. It proved to be a good suggestion in my case.

Yeah, my gf had the same complaint about her grandma's Avalon - that acceleration is a bit jerky now from a stop, after the shim was installed. Her grandma hasn't noticed anything and we hardly drive the car so I guess it'll just stay as-is. Luckily my gf's Camry is Japan-built w/ a Denso pedal so there's no problem.

I think Toyota should have replaced the pedals to begin with. I still really love my Camry and Camrys in general and would not mind picking up a new one. I'm having a hard time resisting '09 Camry LEs at my local Hertz lot for $13.9K!

Before they installed my new Accelerator Pedal on my 2010 Camry, I called the parts department to make sure it was a Denso pedal that would not need a shim. They said they could not identify the manufacture, and that it had a different part number. They thought it was a completely newly designed pedal. At least it fixed my problem of quick accelerations.

So was it a Denso or a CTS when you got it back? And what did you have originally?
