DSM tricks?

Is there ways to increase performance by twisting the distributor cap a certain degree, like some ghetto shit? Any downsides or positives involve? Are there other tricks out there? I just heard it from a friend and would like to know thats all.

Thanks
Calvin

Stupid question (probably), but he said that you'll gain hp up top, but lose it low down when advancing it. In this case, could you reverse your timing a bit to gain some low-end power?

Logically, it would seem to work, but then again, some things aren't always so logical. :p

yeah, but a car's engine is optimised for idle already, yoiu may be able to retard it a bit more, and get a smoother idle, but you'll top out at 30mph

obviously i'm exagerating, there's no point in retarding your timing on a stock engine...

You can never take "Oldman" or "Brink" seriously.

k, I was hoping that was sarcasm.
Perhaps once I get a couple more things done, I'll consider it. Good info none the less though.

^ unless the couple more things you are referring to are rather large projects, don't bother.

what was the rule of thumb for advancing timing? for every 1 extra octance from the stock octance you could increase timing 1 degree and get 2 horsepower? someone lemme know!

gotta love toyota's non interfering engines... sure, we're not quite as efficient but we don't fuck our engines up if the timing belt snaps.

and i swear that userlain is a gimmick.
