Engine Problem!!!!!!!!

for some reason when i step on the gas pedal, i hear a sound- kind of clicking noise, the more i step on the gas, the louder it gets. i brought it to a mechanic, he said it's the "HEAD GASKET" $250 to fix it.
My question is if it really is the HEAD GASKET or something else, and is $250 a good price???

Im sure this question has been asked, but i can't find one that really helps me

ok, if its coming from the drivers side it may be low coolant level, or so ive heard, my camry started making a sound like someone was rolling a coffee can with a few pebbles in it around under the drivers side of the engine bay and it turned out my coolant level had dropped and air was trapped in the heater core, when its making the sound try turning the thermostat to full heat and if it stops or sounds like fluid rushing ( thats what mine did) i believe thats the problem

From your description (bottom of engine and noise gets louder when you step on the gas) it could be a bad bearing (rod or main bearing).

Hard to say without dropping the oil pan and unbolting the rod / main caps.

sounds like you spun a bearing to me... change the oil NOW! when you do, put a magnet through the dirty oil, and see if you see/pickup any metal shavings... if so, then you spun a bearing and you MAY need a new engine. sometimes it can be solved with a new set of bearings, but usually when the shit breaks, the metal goes all around and destroys the balance of the whole engine. thats what happened to my old 4cyl and thats why i swapped to a v6...

how many miles do you have????

250 bucks isn't a bad price to get the head gasket replaced. Maybe you're thinking valve cover gasket? The head and or/block might have to be resurfaced.

yeah 250 is a great price... there is a lot of work involved... have you ever changed one? taken apart an engine? it takes about an hour and a half if you are experienced... at 75 bucks an hour thats aboutabout 115 bucks. then the head gasket is like 50 or so then you need to change the oil, thats about 40 bucks for a repair shop, then there is the disposal fee, 10 bucks... OH i almost forgot, you can NOT reuse head bolts, so you need to replace those, 50 bucks. whats that add up to??? hmmmm... adding... adding... 265. so in retrospect, 250 is a good price.

if you were to do it yourself, it involves the same shit, but it would take like 3-4 hours to do. plus a lot of people dont have a torque wrench, which you need to torque down the NEW head bolts.
