Non-noob CAI ?

Was just outside planning my CAI, it's pretty easy 'til you get to the battery- hence the reason for this bandwidth-wasting post-

I unbolted the fuse box so I could move it out of the way, and I located the hole where the cai will run (gotta get out the Dremel and enlarge that). My question is, for those of you who have done it... did you need to relocate the fuse box or the battery, or will the pipe clear down there? Even a 2.5" pipe might be a tough fit, I tried to make a mental image of it but the ol' brain didn't want to do it.

Hey steve, you do not need to remove either the fuse box or the battery to make the cai work, though i wasn't able to bolt my fusebox to the fender once i installed the cai. My cai has 2.5in piping and although its a tight squeeze, it's definitely worth it. I actually bought a cai from el prototypes and the part of piping that goes from the afm to the filter in the fenderwell is a pretty funky shape. I talked to the guys over at el and they said that the angle is pretty awkward though you may be able to remedy that with some home depot rubber elbow couplings or something of that nature. Good luck!

Nope.

And heres a pic of enlarged hole:

I lined the hole with wire loom.

no need to relocate anything, but you might want to move the fuse boxes out of the way so you have more room to work in there.
put the filter on from the bottom (fender) so you wont have to enlarge the hole

good luck!

I had to unbolt the fuse boxes and I was unable to screw them back in. I have a 3" tube.

Thanks...

I had read somewhere that the battery should be moved, but I'm glad I don't need to... Now for one last question then I'm good to go- my buddy's MX6 (the 2.5 litre one) has a Hotshot CAI that goes down to just ahead of the radiator. Could a gen2 one be made like this? I figure that, in terms of our cars, it is off the beaten path... still, I vote no- not that much room, and the exhaust is close enough to negate "cold air" benefits. Then there's all the dirt and whatnot- even with the undercovers-

hmm.. thats weird. some ofyou guys had problems fitting 2.5" inch piping? i fit 3" piping in there and i was still able to screw the fuse boxes back on. though the wires coming out of the fuse box are pressed up against the pipe pretty tight, its actaully better cause they kinda hold the cai in place.

The hole has to be enlarged cos its to small for a pipe (2.5").

This is on a gen 2.

The hole on a gen 3 is alot bigger. No need to enlarge it / cut it out.

The battery doesn't need to be moved. However you might want to take it out so you have more room to work with when you enlarge the hole.

Your better off putting the filter in the fender.
