Worth the Risk?

So I'm thinking about putting in an aftermarket steering wheel on my 92' Cam. Right now, I have a wheel cover that works really well. As for the actual steering wheel: The leather is worn down, and through on a few parts. There isn't much for girp left on it.

But what I am wondering is, do you guys think it is worth the risk to not have an airbag?

Have you looked at Wheelskins? It's tighter than any steering wheel cover... it actually sews on for close fit.

http://www.wheelskins.com/

About $40 but you can routinely find it on ebay for less. There are also distributors that carry it for less than retail.

Just an option in case you REALLY don't want to give up your airbag.

Hmmm...head smashing into new steering wheel or head smashing into airbag.

Stick with your steering wheel dude, don't even think about replacing it without an airbag.

When it really comes down to it, isnt your seat belt the thing that is ment to stop you from hitting your head against the steering wheel?
obviously having an airbag is ALOT better, but not necessary i dont think......I dont have an airbag in my Camry
personally I would keep the airbag and if necessary like BDeuce said, buy a new stock one

Ive heard somewhere that your not allowed to replace a steering wheel with airbag with one w/o an airbag? im not sure about that though........

seat belt is to stop you from going through the winshield, and technically, if you are positioned right at impact, your chest would hit the steering wheel, but how often is everyone in that optimum position?

I would say if you're not going to go to shows you don't have to get it, just get something to cover up the circumference of the wheel and maybe paint the middle are so it looks good.

If you're gonna do shows i would say then yea definitely go for the racing wheel.

if you really do just want an aftermarket wheel, which is fine if you do, then upgrade your seats while you're at it and then get youself a nice racing harness and you won't have to worry about your head going anywhere, provided you always buckle up.

i voted for the stock steering wheel, BUT that was only for the not worth dying part. BUT you can use the wheel from a supra mk4 or a newer celica or corolla! those are hot and still have the airbags... get that shit happenin.!

Cool, thanks for your input guys. I think I'm going to stick with the stock wheel. That is also due to the possibility that I might have the chance to buy a 60's Monte Carlo with only 40,000 miles on it And I need to save up the cash for that. But good points. It's not worth dying.
