Help with Toyota diagnostic codes
Could you help me as Toyota guru
I'm trying to get the diagnostic codes for the Check Engine light on my 96
Camry display, with no success. I tried the process described in a Chiltons book for 96 Camrys,
including making sure there was more than 11 volts in the system, accessories
off, short TE1 and E1 on the plug under the hood, transmission in neutral,
ignition on but car not started. Nothing but a solid Check Engine light. We
took it to a local repair shop and they put their scanner on it.. replaced an
O2 sensor and #2 plug that was fouling out. $300 later, everything looks good.
The next day (yesterday), the Check Engine light comes on again, and we're
starting to see slight amounts of blue smoke again. I tried the diagnostic
routine again with the same lack of success, and tried removing the fuse for
the module to reset the codes as described in the book, still with no luck.
The light comes on and stays on as soon as the ignition is turned on. I read
some of the other posts to this group and checked for things like a loose gas
cap (ha!).
Is there any hope of me getting the diagnostic codes from this thing, or am I
doomed to paying $95 every time the light comes on?
Thanks very much in advance for any help.
