Unhappy Drops from drive to neutral OIL ? type

Yup My son's 238,000 miles, 1990 Camry LE V6. Just got a transmission job about a year ago. It is a beautiful car.
Tranny job just of warranty.
Was making clunky noise from Park or Neutral to Drive. Adjusted the idle speed to 900-1000 RPM, it diminished the clunkiness substantially. Now is up to 1,000 or so by itself.
Now it drops to Neutral by itself.
What kinda tranny oil shall I get ? Check it hot ? seems to have a few bubbles on it. Color is clear an very light weight; is it the right kind ? Can any one please give us a hint on how to change the tranny oil?? This is his work car.
We will be checking the shifter cable linkage at the transmission for a loose nut.
Can not afford another tranny job or another car.
If there is some good advise or hints we will appreciate them. Car is in Ft Lauderdale, I am driving there Friday morning.
Thanks again for reading this.

1. Dexron II/III ATF (auto tranny fluid)
2. Yes check it hot.

ATF should be red, not clear. Are you checking the right dipstick?

To drain the tranny just remove the drain bolt on the tranny pan. You fill it up through the dipstick.

Theres also a drain bolt for the differential. To fill it up you use the fill hole (remove the bolt first) on the backside of the differential.
