that'll work, you'll push down to shift now instead of in. And you'll have to relocate the switch alongside the shifter, or if you don't car then you can just always have the OD switch on.

if i want it permantely on, do i just wire the 2 wires together?

no, if you want it perm. on, you just do not hoook up the wires... at least that is how it was on my gen 4... i would put a switch in though- it is a 2 wire hookup and very easy
