not your usual strut question

i found out i have SEALED struts. does kyb or tokico sell full struts that are serviceable, or only sealed struts that arent serviceable, and strut cartridges. what im asking is, is it possible to go from a sealed setup to a serviceable setup?

i know cartridges wont work with sealed struts... but in order for cartridges to work, they are inserted into another housing. is this housing replace-able?

hopefully you guys understand what im asking, and why i didnt want to run a search for this, cuz i know i would have gotten a crapload of false leads. thx

none of that makes sense...

first you say you have serviceable struts...
then you say you want to go from a sealed setup to a serviceable setup...
then you want to know if you can replace a serviceable sturt housing...

to replace a serviceable strut, you need to either buy a WHOLE strut (serviceable) from Toyota or a junk yard... OR you can swap in a sealed strut. why you would want to replace your whole strut is wierd... but if you already have a serviceable strut, then just get new cartridges...

its all good...i think i did answer your question... if not...

if you can find aftermarket struts (whole struts), then get those, if not, find some serviceable struts from a junkyard and get inserts for those...

You can also convert your sealed struts into serviceable struts.

wow... i cant imagine having to do that to all 4 struts. thats a lot of work!

im not lowering any time soon... it was just a question i thought of during one of my space-out sessions. good info though

i think the reason i have sealed when i should have serviceable is because my dad had them replaced at sears before he gave me the car, and i think they squeezed more money out of him by selling him sealed struts instead of cartridges. i always had a feeling those guys were shady... they screwed me dammit.

how much should the struts cost at a junkyard (factory serviceables)?
