Brake Light Indicator

Hey guys,

I'm hoping you guys can help me with a problem that just started happening a few days ago. When I'm driving, my brake indicator light on my instrument cluster (you know, the one that lights up when you pull up the handbrake) keeps coming on and going off periodically. I've already checked to make sure that my handbrake isn't stuck and it appears to be working fine, so I'm at a complete loss as to what the problem could be.

Can anyone help me? I would hate for this to be something serious and I end up not paying as much attention to it as I should. Thanks.

Check the brake fluid level and top it off to the "FULL" line if it's low...

i just checked the fluid level and it's at the "MIN" mark. i'll fill it up when i get home and see if the problem goes away.

It is also a good time to inspect your brake pads/linings and disc/drum thickness.
The wear will cause the pistons to retain more fluid for proper clearance, so that is why the fluid level has lowered (assuming that there is no leak).

The wear limit of the rotor/ drum is stamped on it. Friction pads, ought to be changed if they are the same thickness as the backing plate. Drum linings, make sure you measure the thinnest spot.

thanks for the advice. i'm going to check them the first chance i can. i assume for the drums though, this is something i'm going to have to take to a shop to check.
