I mananged to pick up a spray can of throttle body cleaner (water based), so I started to take apart my intake hose. First I started with my bypass hose. To my surprise it was amazingly clean! No oil, no sludge, no nothing! I rubbed my fingers through it and it was clean as a whistle. I also used a tissue and found no trace of oilyness whatsoever. Pic

here. That is one spankingly clean looking throttle plate. So I guess my theory of oil dirtying the TB thru the bypass hose is wrong. I also decided to take a look at the PCV valve. I disconnected that hose and found oil there. Pic
here. Not a lot of oil though, the dipstick doesnt seem to move and I never need to add any make-up oil. The PCV valve hose is connected directly to the intake manifold, so the oil will never get anywhere close to the TB. So I guess it must be normal for the intake manifold to be oily. If the oil makes it's way into the intake valves and cc, it cant be very good, can it? Im going to try some fuel system cleaner next to see if cleaning up the intake valves and combustion chamber helps the rough idling.
Is it a good idea to add an oil catch tank to the PCV hose? Will it mess up the vehicles PCV system? I was thinking something like
this.
