Today we installed the rears for my Tokico struts and H&R Sport springs. Took it for an easy drive and then went for a hard all out drive... WHOA this car handles like its on tracks!!! DAMN!!! 1000% worth the investment. It helped that I didn't have to pay anything for the install. It was a huge learning experience too. Thanks to Darryl for letting us use his garage/tools and for helping me with the fronts and basically encouraging me to install them myself! My Mustang buddy was a big help for the rears.
On a side note, the rattle in the rear is gone too. I don't know exactly what the problem was. The rattle was from the right side in the rear. I replaced the stabilizer bar link on the left side since the allan bolt was destroyed. Maybe the right side just needed to be tightened. Who knows. Anyway I'm glad that its all over. I need to get my new rims/tires real bad because the tires squeal like you wouldn't imagine on turns since the suspension is so stiff and I am able to take them so easily. I wonder if going from 195 to 205 is good enough. Anyway, my rims should be on order real soon. I can't wait!

Congrats Man! Big up to you, Darryl, and the "Domesetic Guy". Respect for tackling that job yourselves .
Glad to hear that the car handles AMAZING now! Ya'll got me excited now . I hope the cause of the rattle in my ryde is a bad strut and not a $200 piece of metal.
Not only will new rims/rubber make a huge difference but so will a Whiteline swaybar
I can wait to see you car dude . I wonder if the rear will settle too low 'cause of the subs in that trunck, resulting in an uneven appearance :???:

I don't think we necessarily need a swaybar. The car doesn't experience ANY rear end roll even on sharp turns. For example, I took a 90* turn into a side-street at 80km/h and the only thing that happened is my rubbers gave out and I skid towards the sidewalk. But the body remained planted firmly without any roll. That $200 for swaybar can be put to a more productive use in my case. But its upto you if you want to get it. I personally feel that with the springs and struts that you will be putting in sway bar will not be necessary. Stock is good enough.
As for subs, I took mine out a couple of weekends ago when I was taking a long trip to Ottawa and the into Soo, Michigan. I didn't want that extra 130 lbs kiling my gas mileage. Plus I wanted to be able to race around a little on the highway! I will be putting them back in for the meet on Saturday. So I will also have my first look at how the springs in the rear look with the subs in there.

I cant wait to have my TRD springs and Tokico struts on my car but its going to be hard to put them on now i dont got a garage anymore.I think i will ask my friend who owns my dealer how much he can do it for me.
Not hard to do. Just need 2 people to make it easier. The hardest part we found was to untorque some of those nuts since good ol rust builds up inside from all the Winters that my car has seen. But your car is a lot newer so you shouldn't really have that problem.

Great job! Did you guys get a spring compressor for the job? I'm sure handling is greatly improved. As for tire size, a 215 wouldn't be a bad idea. I would definitely look into it.

We rented a spring compressor from Canadian Tire. It was free. You get to keep it for 3 days.
Handling is amazing! Like Porsche AWD (except for my tires) hehe
I was even thinking about 215, but I dunno... not on a 4cyl... might be too much rolling resistance off the line even though handling would be better. And also would kill gas mileage. I think I might just go with 205/55/16 on my SSR Comp 16x7s  - a lot lower profile from stock.

Also, you're only getting the "low profile" because the tire is too small. 205 width should be a 60 aspect ratio. You should only do the 55 ratio with a 215.

Jeff, we spoke about this matter before. 4cyl stock tire is 195/70/14. Now plugging numbers into that miata.net tire calculator, 205/55/16 is 0.5% off while 205/60/16 that you suggested is 3.8% off. If I went to 215, correct size is 215/50/16 which is 1.1% off while your measurement of 215/55/16 would be 2.3% off.
Trust me, I've done this research a long time ago. Verify if you wish at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
So my choices are 205/55/16 or 215/50/16
Now I do not want to lose ANY standstill acceleration, so I think going +2 in wheel diameter and 10mm wider will give me the perfect compromize between acceleration and handling. Keep in mind, I am getting summer Z-rated "ultra" high performance tires. 215 might be "too much tire." Although after riding with my new suspension I am almost considering going 215/50/16. But with potholes in Toronto I am having second thoughts. I will look into it before I order rims though.

I decided to stick with 205/55/16. I never even looked for 215/50/16 before but I'm sure if I can find 205/55/16 (which was hard enough) then 215/50/16 shouldn't be bad. Anyway I'm not gonna worry myself about that for now.

Go with the 205/55/16's. 215/50/16 are a tougher size to find and will cost more. The 205/55's are actually a popular size for 16 inch rims, I see them on cars all the time. Whenever I look for 16" tires, I usually see that size first.
I'm riding 215/55/16 because I have a V6, the 10 mm makes a lot of difference in the handling characteristics. This is a tough tire to find as well, the more popular size is 215/60/16.
You won't have to worry about potholes, the sidewall is still pretty big, especially on a 16" rim.
