Just thought I'd stop by. I'm flying back home tomorrow and can't wait to be back in my own car. I booked a full-size with Hertz for Fri-Mon and got a 2011 Altima w/ 3K miles. I ended up exchanging it - I tried to get a Camry but they didn't have any so I settled for a Forester (free upgrade) which I like a lot.
Altima:
- I'm used to the sound of my 2AZ, Nissan's 2.5L just doesn't do it for me
- Tilt only steering wheel (the Camry has had tilt and telescoping since '07!)
- Manual driver's seat
- Push button ignition is a pain in the ass
- Weak/dim headlights
- Poor visiblity
- No DRLs
The weak headlights and poor visibility were the big ones for me. I am just very underwhelmed by the Altima - I was excited at first to try it but I really didn't want to drive all day for three days in something I didn't like. Hertz was great about it though, absolutely no problems doing the exchange
On the plus side though, the Altima has far superior steering (just feels crisper even with the crappy OEM tires) and EXCELLENT brakes. It just doesn't make up for the rest of the car though. Through renting other cars, I'm beginning to realize that I'll be buying another Camry when the time comes. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my '05, my mom's '95, and my gf's '09 Camrys
