what happened to rear legroom in the new Camry?

In my 2001 Camry, I have ample legroom in the rear seat. I tried sitting in a new Camry at the dealer yesterday, and you can't get your feet under the front seats. That effectively reduces the rear legroom by around 12"!

This problem doesn't seem to be related to power seats, because I also sat behind a manual adjusted passenger front seat, and same problem.

Does anyone know why and when this changed?

^Were the seats down all the way? If you put the seat up a bit higher I can guarantee you will be able to get your feet under the seat. My husband is 6'2" with a size 11 shoe and he has no issues getting his feet under the driver or passenger seat while sitting in the back.

I adjusted the front seats to the highest vertical position, and I could only get a small part of my foot underneath the center part of the seat.

I can't, for the life of me, understand why. Like I said, my husband is no small guy and he doesn't have any issues getting his skis (for feet ) underneath the seat.
