Replacing CV axle shaft

Hi guys. New to this forum
I have a 96 Toyota Camry w/o ABS, and the 4 cyl. I need to replace the pass. CV axle assembly. Already got the part, but was wondering if someone could tell me how to replace it. I've been working on Jeeps for over 5 years now, but have never done a CV axle replacement. If someone maybe could even just give a quick write up on it, or direct me to a link, that'd be great
Thanks
-Darek

if you're gonna be working on this car, you might as well spend 20$ and buy a haynes manual, it'll tell you everything you need to know

depending on model but basically

take tire off
remove axle nut
either remove the lower control arm nuts located under the brake assembly or i found to be easier is to separate at the strut knuckles.
then yank the axle out

Pretty much what wanton said. There is a ring you must pull out that holds the shaft in place. There is also a 10 or 12 mm nut to remove. It is located one a loop closer to the wheel to hold the shaft in place.

I kept the tire on and took the center piece of the rim out to take off the axle nut. It felt a little more sturdy.

^ Yup theres a snapring and bolt on the center bearing carrier that has to be removed.

You need a 30mm socket to remove the axle nut.

Also need a crowbar to pry the axle out of the differential.

Good luck.

This may have little relevance but I did a halfshaft replacement on a Sentra once. (Haven't down onw on my Camry yet). There was no way to get anything like a pry bar between the inside joint covering and the transaxle. I ended up pulling the joint right out of the cover trying to get the thing out of the transaxle. (Which is no big deal because it's a core anyway.

I found (after I took the other side apart and poked through with a long thick screwdriver to get the driver's side one out) that a pair of vice grips would grip the inside joint case perfectly, right at the little ring where the metal snap ring that holds the boot on it goes.

Talk about a "DOH!"

if you can get it on a lift, it will make it soo much easier, but pretty much what they said.... putting it in is a little harder, first get some tranny fluid, cuz u will probably need to add a little, but put someon ur finger, and put it on the end that is going into the tranny. then slide that end in, then take the other end then slide the other end of the axel through the brake assembly, the tricky part is getting it lined up right so that it slides right through, if it doesnt, take the axel nut and screw it on to what little bit is sticking through, and use an impact gun or wrench what ever ur using and it should pull it right through the rest of the way, put everything back together, and ur done....
