strut "boot?"

I'm replacing my springs, struts, and mounts on my 88 camry and noticed that the "boot" around the strut is torn on all four corners. what is the part called, and how expensive are they, and how necessary are they? I've already spent about $600 and still haven't gotten to put anything on yet

tell me how it goes - my struts are going to be gone soon

I always called it a boot, is there another name for it? Id expect that the price is going to be few dollars, you already spent this much, why not a few more?

They are indeed called a boot... I've heard them referred to as both strut and dust boots. I bought the dealer replacements for the front, about $17 each... but the rears were around $45 each, so I opted for KYB's universal boots which I couldn't get to fit. I don't know what to tell you for the rears, unless you wanna spend almost $100 on em from the dealer. BTW, this was on a Gen3

$45 for the rear? wow.

I guess I'll be calling my dealership aboot this then. I tried getting Autozone to order me some but they didn't know what the hell I meant when I said strut boot.

Thanks

Don't know about the exact cost for Gen3, but I recently purchased the front boots and the coil spring seats (the rubber that goes at the bottom, under the spring) plus the rubber seat for the rear (bottom again). The front was about $11 each (if I remember correctly) after internet discount from www.toyotaparts4u.com. The rears were a lot more expensive, because they are actually part of the upper strut mount, not just a boot as the fronts (so I did not get them).

If yours are torn, definitely get new ones or at least good ones from a junk yard - your new struts will get bad faster due to dust if you do not have good dust boots.
