Clearing Trouble Codes in Airbag System - Need Some Help
I had the instrument cluster out today to replace some lights and after hooking everything back up the airbag light styed on. When I did the diagnostics I got a 22 code.
Did a search and I found this thread and followed the directions. My wife watched the airbag light while I alternated grounding the wires, even got the fast pulse on/off at the end which indicates it cleared (?) but then it stayed on again. I repeated the procedure 3-4 times with the same result.
What am I doing wrong? Is the airbag system being reset thern immediately picking up a new trouble code?
BTW, I have the whole dash apart (instrument cluster plugged in but sitting on the steering column) so is there maybe a grounding problem?
Thanks.

It's not supposed to be a super fast blinking, so make sure that it isn't that fast.
Most importantly, make sure you use a very strong ground. If anything, take some jumper cables and connect to the battery ground. If you don't do it with a strong ground, the light blinks, but it blinks fast, not slow.
As well, make sure to hold the last ground wire as per the diagram. I highly doubt the cluster sitting on your steering column is causing the problem, especially if everything is plugged in.

Ok, I'll try it again in the morning.

I used the motor mount where the O2 sensor wire bracket is. I'll do it again against the negative terminal on the battery (I'm using a pair of old multimeter probes with lengths of 16 gauge wire soldered to them).

That's what I thought.....we'll see what luck I have tomorrow.
OK, I have tried to reset this thing about 25 times with no luck. I am using the negative terminal on the battery. I have the dash all put back together so everything is connected. The airbag light stays lit after the six or seconds after you turn the key to ACC or ON. After the reset procedure, I do get the fast pulse when I do the alternating grounding wire thing, but then it comes back on!!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I saw some mention in another post where the author asked if the second ground wire should be left grounded until the ignition is turned off. I don't see that anywhere in the factiry manual procedure.
I can't help you anymore....dunno what it is. My last suggestions...make sure you're doing the grounding in the right order. Make sure you hold that last ground down. Make sure you have a strong ground. Try using the diagnostic port in the engine bay instead?
Other than that, I can't think of anything else. If anything, drive up to a TN meet in TO and I'll give you a hand!
OK, so I thought I'd give this a try again. I have used both the under dash and under hood terminal blocks without success.
So I had my wife do the wire grounding so I could watch the airbag light (she actually thought this was a better deal since she thought I was trying to deploy the airbag in her face
Turns out I am NOT getting a cofirmation flash, just the "22" trouble code as if I had it jumpered...
I have checked and double checked that I am using the right terminals....
If you take the bulb out finally, at least know why you did.
Retrace all your steps, strip it down if you must, do over.
If your Airbag light is lighting up and resetting to 22, according to the book, check your ECU-B fuse and light circuit, then ECU-B fuse and airbag assembly.
Did you try the part about disconnecting your airbag? With your battery disconnected of course.
Better then having no light and the 22 Error, that points to replace airbag sensor assembly.
Yeah, I thought of tearing it all down again and seeing what I might have done wrong. Definitely will retrace my steps.
I studied the troubleshooting section in the factory manual last night and saw what you referenced (ECU-B fuse, etc.) and will proceed with that as well.
