Thanks in advance to all the postings and how tos...Very helpful. Would not have been so ready to do it without those posts.
Thinking I was so prepared, I ripped my dash out and broke the damn airflow lever on the left vent. Taking that as a precursor, I tried to get onto TN where that wonderful FAQ is located...and TN was down. Should have stopped right there, but nooooooooooo..
okay got the dash and cluster on the kitchen table and shine a flash light into all the different ports to figure which lights are out. I never knew I had so many. Even found one that said MANU ??
Whats that for? Read the F'ing Manual? Bought 6 bulbs on top of my stash thinking I would have enough. Wrong - short two. These were the weird ones, that screw into the annunciator panel. I have spares on all the others. 3 kinds of bulbs boys and girls.
Besides managing to break a few more peices of plastic (nothing critical) I finally get all the shit on and flame on. Tadaa!! I then notice my P Light has gone out. Screw it, next time when I am in there. Sonofabitch.
*HINT* Do not use double sided tape. It was too thick on the water temp gauge. Plus I had some alignment problems with the speedo, causing needle to hang. I ripped it all off and started fresh with fabric glue instead. Fabric glue works on plastic and is not as corrosive as 'Super Glue'. It dries soft but is strong enough to hold the plate flat. It lets you move the faceplate around for positioning. I do not recommend even trying to remove needles.
Did it with full tank, so marking milage to make sure all is kosher.
Few observations I have, was the original bulbs I left in seemed more yellowish now in comparison. I had removed the green socks andlet them burn bare. They light up the Temp and Fuel gaugeswith that yellow splash.. I am not too pleased with that effect. Also that green clock is frightingly out of place. I had it out, but think the LEDs of the clock are that color, there was no filter to remove. Maybe laying a red filter over it will make it grey? What color filters on green will make blue?
I used the brake light fuse and grounded to brake pedal mount. Works great - best choice.
End of project. Not too impressed with the quality of the dials honestly, but going to leave them on for now. Maybe they will grow on me.
What did you get? Reverse indigoes? From eBay? What brand.. I was thinking of doing this soon, any info would be great. Thanks. Oh what do you not like about them? Is the blue colour to bright? (I like VW’s colour *drool*)
i got some off ebay didnt mind them too much i just didnt know where to mount the stinkin switch for it. lol then later while i was painting my needles i accidently broke the wires to the dial and switch. lol i just cant win.
Oops.I did not use brake light fuse, I used tailights fuse.
I will post pics later..yup, I got these from ProCar Parts. Just took the car out for a nightspin and turned them all the way down. Wife likes them.
Get the ones without the center portion lit, too bright. They were too distracting, they were even reflecting off the side windows, plus people in other cars were looking when I was at a light. Do not like the attention. I think I will redo those. Also the standard lighting is just too damn yellow now in comparison. It's not noticable when there is nothing to compare them too, but with the Blues and Whites...
I mounted the switch under the dash, I was worried I would kick it but the foot pedal for the parking brake kind of guards it. Worked out pretty good.
Daytime is okay. The reason I got them was for the white daytime look but nighttime is where they become really noticable. Numbers are harder to read, but its nice that I can adjust both brightness for the whiteys and the standards seperately.
Originally posted by UfoZ8myCow yeah, for reverse indiglo i would have gone for the kind without the white center portion. it looks much better like that imo
Damn it, I prefer it without the lit centers. I feel soiled now.....riced even. Maybe I can paint them to tone them down. Wife quit talking to me, hahahahahaha. Never get your mate involved in a project. I wonder what she'll say if I spring a few more bucks and go order new ones. Wait till the HRs, Tocikos and Whiteline arrive. Also steering wheel and console box. Jesus, I'm dead. Maybe it's lucky I lost the bid on those TRD rims. Doghouse time.
tony, you missing a couple of bulbs? Dude before you begin painting the bulbs, I was reading from some other guy that his paint flaked off the bulbs. I never had mine on long enough for this to happen (two weekends). Just be aware.
Wait a minute, that picture shows the engine idling with all those idiot lights on?????? Wasgoingon?
FUCK. I took out every bulb in the gauge cluster and climate control panel, painted them blue with a sharpie but they look white. What can I do to make them look blue? Do you know what type of bulbs they are and where I could get them colored blue?
Here are some new pics of the gauges. They are silver, not white.
anyone know if those apc bulbs will burn the blue and and become yellow...i got some blue bulbs from autozone and like a months later they burned out back to yellow
