DIY center trim piece/shift removal (more pics!)

I have a gen4.5 and I searched this camry forum everywhere
on changing my shift knob and removal of the center trim piece.
I found mostly advice+pics for the gen3's.
The trim piece around the shift knob for my gen is just not the same.

I finally did it myself and here are pics I took while changing it.
So this is dedicated for those gen4&4.5 owners!!!

---------------

basically, there are 4 inserts from that center piece, you can see the 4 metal protruding things on the piece im holding.

So, when starting to remove that trim piece,
I took a screw driver, and wrapped lots of tape (for protection),
stuck it in between and basically popped it up.

The center piece is connected to that small carpet area and the cigarette plastic covering. (it's all one piece).
In the pic, i didn't remove the attached cable for the power thing. (the orange part)

There's 2 screws toward the front of the car on the shifter. remove those. then pull shifter up. you wont be able to pull it completely because of the O/D wire. cut that and pull shifter up and off.

That brown wire (for O/D) coming up has 2 small wires inside for the O/D.
if you want to keep O/D on forever, pull inside that brown wire and tape it down somewhere.
(the 2 wires not touching)

You can make a simple switch and use a dremel or something to make a hole for it somewhere if you want to be able to turn O/D off.
it is easy to follow the wire down inside.
There is actually a small thing that clips the wire so you can't really lose it.

yup, about removing the shift knob itself, they are mostly similiar.

Here are my search results that I may have found useful:

Shift knob?

ps. ill post before and after pics tomorrow when there is daylight

Whats sweet is, I had a 90 Celica before getting my 96 Camry - and its so identical its sick - even the same style engine... So if you have a question, I probably did it to my Celica, and since they're not that far apart, just ask....im slowly workin on my Camry (just waiting for the $$$$$)

hey looks great! one quick question, how did you make the shift boot stay? Aren't most shift boots elastic on the bottom? so you'd have to stretch it pretty damn tight to make it fit? Any pics of how you installed the shift boot?

Also where did you get the shift boot for $11...was it off ebay?
thanks

yes, it was $11 off ebay. genuine leather shift boot.

also, you were right as well, i had to stretch the elastic a bit on the bottom, but it's pretty secure and tight.

sorry, i didn't take pics of the shift boot putting it on, but on the very 1st pic i took, you can see where it stretches around
