I got one, I get stuttering past 5k rpm but it clears up around 6K and goes past redline. It's consistant too. Did it 5 out of 5 times today. Plug too hot? Allthe other plugs I looked at seemed ok.
Think it may be plugs, car came with Bosch Dual Electrodes. Do not know how long they been in. I got the car two months ago. I was going to swap plugs but I tried removing the 5th cylinder plug and got licked. Will try again tomorrow after work.
Suspension is probably the cause of your problem. Does your car pull to one side or the other? Due to the age, the motor mounts might also be wearing down.
Side question: Why are you pushing your car that high anyways? That's gonna mess up your engine pushing it past redline. And your overworking it by running it so high in the RPMs. If it is daily driving, you should be keeping it below 3,000RPMs anyways.

The Italian Tune-up, it's called
hehe. Great if your running too high of octane.
*side note* One of my high school teachers once told me a great excuse if your caught speeding. "Sorry officer, I was just trying to burn or excess carb in my engine due to the high octane gas I run"
If you really know your cars, it will make sense.
Still. Pushing it to redline isn't a great idea. Your torturing that car. Your engine isn't overly comforable at high RPM. Keep it low, and you won't feel the shutter

I do not push it to redline everyday, I am trying to identify what is the problem. Why I pushed it repeatedly (5x) was to see if it would clear, but it consistantly choked at the same point. That inself tells me there is a problem. I havent been anywhere near that redline since. I dont think it was carbon because it did not clear. Now if it faltered all over the place, I would say ignition or fuel. I would then take that approach. But it'sproblem is constant.
Engines are mechanical, if I ran it to redline constantly everyday I would understand if it died. I like my car but most importantly, I want it to perform at its optimal. I try to keep it way below redline normally, but it seemed to choke one day when I was just going through its gears. Now that could indicate any amount of problems. a component could be failing and I want to identify it before it gets worse.
The engine hits a flat spot 1000 rpm below redline then clears up just before redline causing it to pop over. Repeatedly. That indicates something is not working at this point. I need to know what so I can address it.
BTW, I have a 88 Kawa that runs great. I work on it myself. It has 4 carbs that were a pain to tune (Constant Velocity with Stage 3 Kit - with K&Ns and no airbox + Kerker pipes) and sync. Much better than stock. I have never had it at true top, but I have been above indicated 150 on it, reality was it was a little over 145 after measuring. It hits redline whenever I want with no stumbles and is happy to do it. All parts are replaced and serviced regularly and I have had the bike about 10 years. Its not for sale.
Same thing for my car, I have a need to know it is running right.
My personal belief is that is okay to bring the car through its paces if it is properly looked after, but flogging an engine that hasn't seen new oil in over 6000 miles is stupid.
Okay, new plugs (NGK Plat) cured the stumble. Threw those Bosch jobs away. That was the fix.
Yup, my 3VZ-fe went past redline. like I said, it would fart and moan at about 5K rpm and just seem to catch for a brief sec jumping across tach board, Then I would be backing off.
I don't want it to spit shims or blow gaskets either.
Since I put the NGKs in, the falter went away. I have brought it up there a couple of times but not past red, just moving carbon around. Engine is running sweet, love it.
