3sgte

i was jus curious why most of the engine swaps that are done to 3sgte are mr2 (rwd) instead of the celica (fwd). wouldnt that be easier? also, has anyone swapped a jdm celica gt4 260hp 3sgte in their cam's or are they mostly mr2 swaps. i tried the search but couldnt find nothin wit a camry gt4 3sgte.

The GT4 has the same engine as the celica except a few water outlets and such. The MR2 comes with a beefier trans and 93 up has LSD option. Haven't seen anybody post on how to convert the AWD trans to FWD, but on my 'Replacement project car' thread I show what mods are needed to convert the MR2 trans to FWD. The ends from a 88-89CamryV6 or a GT4 CV will fit on the MR2 CV shafts.

You can find the USDM MR2 clips or engines easier than the Celica ones but really it doesn't matter. The MR2 is rwd but because it is mid engine, it is really justa fwd setup in the rear of the car so you basically are using a fwd setup. Also, with the MR2 you have the option of modifying the tranny to work with the Camry but not with the GT4/Alltrac.
