Alarm Installation Help! Please Everyone!!

Currently i m installing a remote start alarm to my 94 camry.

The problem is i don't know which wire i need to connect to get the power.

There are 2 wires on ignition harness. white and white/red. So which wire i need to connect to from my alarm red wire ?

Can i know where to find the tach wire in the car or under the hood?

Either one. They both supply a constant +12V.

On the 4 cylinder motor the black wire is at the check connector located on the rear side of the passenger strut tower.

On the 6 cylinder the black wire is at the ignitor located on the drivers side strut tower.

By the way heres a scan of the wiring info.

It says 1995 Camry, but all gen 3's are the same. I've used the wiring info to hookup an alarm on a 94 and 96.

Great post 88LE. I was also trying to figure out the wiring for the Lynx 2000R, that list helps a bunch!

While we're on this topic though.....where do you guys think is the bes place to place the brain?

From the wire diagram u gave me and i found it from the websites. All of them tell me unlock wire is lt green/red at blue plug.

But what i found that wire is at brown plug. Now i connected it and my alarm can lock my door and cannot unlock my door? Can anyone tell me what's going on?

FWIW, these were the lock/unlock leads I used

Gen4.5 camry

Luisitol: I'd say that logically the best place to put it would be somewhere fairly inaccessible. Don't want thieves to be able to just rip out the whole thing by reaching underneath

Good info guys.

Brink do you think in the negine bay is too accessible? I can't think of an inaccessable place in the car cuz once you're inside you can get to any of it.

Also guys, do you know where the door sensors are for all four doors?

Damn theres alot of questions, so i'll try to answer each question seperately.

I stash the brain up in the drivers side dash. The harder it is to get to the better.

I forgot about the door / lock unlock wires. The info on the wiring diagram is wrong. One of the wires is labeled wrong.

Your problem is that you got the wrong wire for unlock.

What I do is pick a plug and unplug it. See if the door lock / unlock works or not. If it doesn't work, then I know the wire is within that plug.

Then I plug it back in and probe each wire with a DMM till I find the correct one. Toyota's use a negative trigger (you'll see -12V on the DMM) for door lock / unlock.

Edit: The door lock / unlock wires are behind the passenger side kick panel. I believe both wires are in the blue plug, but the unlock wire is labeled wrong.

Looks like the right one. Black wire on check connector in engine bay.

I wouldn't put the brain in the engine bay.

Red/white wire (negative trigger).

Remove black plastic air duct covering the top right side of the fuse box to access a 6 pin plug containing the red/white.

The red/white wire above covers all 4 doors.

I'm with 88le on stashing the brain in the dash. Avoid the engine bay... I don't think those things are designed for the extremes of the engine compartment.

thanx for the info 88LE. About the door sensors there is only one sensor? I thought each door had its own sensor?

Yes, theres a sensor for each door.

But for the purposes of wiring a alarm you use the red/white wire that I talked about.
