I have just bought a reverse indiglo gauge off ebay for my gen 4 2000 camry. I installed it no problem, however, this indiglo comes with a cable that connects to an on/off button.
So, just turning the headlights on is not enough to turn the indiglo on, I still have to press the button. I tried cutting the wire for the on/off and connect it together, no luck. Apparently the indiglo can only be turned on when there's a change in the current going through the on/off button. So I have to separate the wire to turn on the indiglo if I start with the cables joned and vice versa.
Not to get off topic but...
Uh...Isn't a 2000 a gen 4.5?
97-99 = Gen 4
2000-2001 = Gen 4.5 (look at ur back taillights and see if they aren't completely straight. If they kind of curve down, you have a 4.5.)
My indiglows have a switch that looks like a power switch, but its actually the switch that changes the color... could that be what you are talking about?

No, what he's talking about is an actually on of switch. I think I have the same set. The power wire is wired into my lighting system , but there is also a wire that comes down into a wire strip and then goes into a button. Now I don't mean it's got wires you can just snip at and there is a big metal button. It's a wire sheet, and a button. The button is nothing more then a circuit sheet with a non-conductive coating with a simple on/off button in it. All this is wired directly to the ballast that controls the gauges.
I'll go and take a picture of it here in a second, bout to grap a bite to eat now that i'm home from work.
