Changed ATF today, and boy did it stinked!!

Yup, a the title says.. Once I drained the ATF from tranny, it started to fill my garage with a horrible burnt smell!! I couldn't stay in the garage for 5 minutes.... I dropped my pan and cleaned the filter.. the magnets had a few metal shavings but not too bad though.. I haven't changed the ATF since I got the car from the dealer... (48700 miles of semi-hard driving)

My question is: Will my tranny last after changing the ATF to Mobil1 ATF Synthetic, and after a good ol flushing with cheapo ATF?... And will it take on the future RippMod SDS (prob. August or December.. ) ? Anyways I hope, I don't trash my tranny... after the SDS...

Samson

in my experience....3 times now...when you change the oil on a automatic tranny they always blow within 3 months. a mechanic told me that the first time it happened. but you dont have too much miles on it so you should be ok...its more for the higher milage....after 150 000km

your tranny is seriously overheating... that causes the burnt smell. I would do a complete flush or change it 2-3 times and drive it for a couple of months. See if it still smells. If it does, you need a new radiator or a tranny cooler.

You must not be very good at changing the fluid... or you just have shitty luck.
