yup thats right i'm thinking about rasing the air to fuel ratio in my 1996 v6 camry. well here in florida it's about 2 fricking dollars a gallon of cheap shit and the car hates that so i'm paying about 210 for mid and if some place has it on sale 215 for high. well now i was thinking if i rasied the air to fuel ratio would i get better gas mileage with the drop in performace? also what fuel management system would i have to use to do this? also looking for the cheapest way to do this even if it means cutting a line from the air sensor and adding a resitor ... but then again i also thought about higher compression pistons later for the car ... oh well
p.s. i'm rather sure i'm the 1st to talk about intentualy dropping my performance here so i didnt serch for it

Wtf? How are you buying this stuff, cause im pretty sure ur not going to the pumps paying 215$. You do kno high-octane doesn't do anything at all? There is no diff in performance between high octane and regular unleaded.
lol i usta buy mid before it started getting over 1.70 but ya now cheap gas all the way even if it give me ruff idling .... that might even be why my check light is on .... think i'll get that check soon as i get pants on
i'ts a steady 2.50 or so out here (i gotta check)...
if your car needs premium, DONT skimp, ya' cheap skate...
just grin and bare it...
if your car uses regular, then using higher octane for performance gains is like opening the windows to reduce weight...(yes, redundant, i know dont tell me)
IT DOESNT DO ANYTHING...

Hahahahahahaa!!! so true!
One: Some Camrys do require higher octane fuel. I run mid-grade in mine due to the fact that I'm cheap. Don't run lower than mid-grade. You need higher octane fuel to prevent knocking.
Two: I have no idea by what you mean "making the air to fuel higher" Are you raising the air to fuel? Or the fuel to air? Either way, DONT! You engine is set where it needs to be for best performance. Running a race engine, maybe. But your not. Leave it alone. If you want better mileage, drive your car granny style. Lighten up on the foot. Keep it under 2,500 RPM. That will give you a lot.

the air/fuel ratio is already optimized. Unless you are running some mods that will through it off significantly, don't do it as it may cause costlier problems.

the #1 thing you can do is alter your driving habits. accelerate slowly. anticipate slow traffic and stoplights. use cruise control. drive no faster than the speed limit (for every 1mph over 55mph the aerodynamic drag can decrease fuel economy by 1%)
make sure plugs are new and gapped correctly...platinum may help
keep tire pressures as high as possible (lower rolling resistance)
Raising air to fuel ratio???
What that does is make you run lean. If you are lean, you lose power, causing you to accelerate harder, consuming even more gas. You will experience detonation (pinging), your temperature increases, your engine may seize. Tow Truck.
Driving habits, well serviced car and tire pressures way to go.
Octane levels: I know I read something about that and how it was inaccurate and with all the added anti-pollutants (?) they put in gas, I really wonder what I am running through the injectors. Yup, even the epa believes in additives.
Coming from a person who actually makes gasoline for a living ... Yes, there isnt much of a difference in performance... Unless your car has a high compression, then I wouldnt run nothing less than premium... If your car has a lower compression such as a 9.5:1 then I would run low... If your car has alot of miles and pings on 87 Octane then try middle ( 89 for California)... But, either way gas is gas... Unlike me if your car states you run premium then run premium if not run 87 like I do on my Tundra and my Echo...
And why you guys complaining about think about it people in Japan are pay $5.00+ for regular gallon of gas... And its not the oil companies fault either its the media's bull$#!T .. Try blaiming the OPEC ... the reason gas price came up is because the price of Crude oil went from being $22 dollars a barrel ( 55gallons) to $47.00 a barrel... And we are all paying for it ...
