Need Help with Strut and Cap?!?

There is a knocking noise in the passenger front wheel area. The dealership said the strut and cap is worn or something like that. They are charging me 700 for new front ones. Is there a better alternative or do I have to suck it up pay 700. Is this dangerous? I just paid for a 90k service and have no money left over since I just finished school. What are my options? 1997 Camry LE. Thanks.

Also, my brake rotors are warped....the dealer is charging me around 300. So many billlllllssssssssssssss.........

first off......stop going to the dealership.

second...get a good mechanic

third....700 for new front struts and mounts are just ridiculous....

fourth...300 for new brake rotors are ridiculous too.....

if you want to keep your ride stock, then just buy some oem replacement struts and aftermarket strut mounts....it'll probably only run you about 200 to maybe 300 for parts, and then if you have a good mech, he can probably do the labor for 100bucks....and if you know how to do it, even better, cuz it's not too hard

for the brake discs....if you just want regular blank discs, it'll probably cost you a hundred bucks for all four, and then you can grab a haynes manual and change them yourself......

if you actually do all that at the dealership, you're getting hosed....especially since that's all in american dollars....

just remember to either find a good mechanic that you can trust or a buddy who knows how to do this stuff, and you'll save yourself at LEAST $$$500
