NJ inspection problems....need some help if possible...
so, I just took my baby to inspection today in the armpit of america, New Jersey and I thought u all would like to know how it went:
1. Apparently the Rod Millen wing for the camry is illegal because it obstructs the third brake light,
2. any kind of taillight modifications are illegal
3. despite my header back exhaust passing emissions with flying colors it too is illegal because despite having a resonator AND a muffler it is still too loud....those c*cks wouldn't even give me some measure by which to get it fixed, just kept saying,"it's too loud."
first of all i'm gonna apologize now to anyone who likes the state of NJ, I'm just kinda angry with them right now.....
secondly, i was wondering if anyone had a stock gen 3 exhaust system that i could either buy cheaply or just borrow to get through inspection....any help would be greatly appreciated.

So painting ur tails would be illegal? Man thats ruff...
How did they measure the sound? Did they just listen and say too loud or did they use a decible machine?
what part of nj do you live in? i got mine done by a mechanic on rt.541 by the walmart and acme for about $145. its the second gas station with the higher prices not the first... just ask for josè...I paid that much mostly because i had my check engine light on, i somehow failed emissions(stock exhaust and everything), had a cracked windshield (damn dump trucks), a burnt tail light bulb, and a randomly rapid flashing right turn signal.... quite alot of things right? the only thing that got fixed was the check engine light. he is a qualified inspector so i never had to see that stupid place again. he just faxed it to them and it was over... no more checks for another 2 years.. woot woot..

they simply listened and said, "it's too loud" flat out, inside the station, where the thing was really loud what with all the echoing and shit, plus I don't think they acounted for the intake noise from my CAI. No decible machine or anything, and yeah they told me to get new taillights.....
or you can do what i did and make them make u change them out before you go ahead and do it....u never know, u might sneak by, hell, i did last time and i really don't know what was different this time.....

Then wouldn't it be kind of void? Because if you had very sensitive ears or something it could sound super loud? The law should have an Exact decible amount so i think that them just saying its too loud would not count. But please call someone at the DMV or somethin or wait for someone to back me up.
yeah, i was pretty steamed when the wouldn't even give me a measurement by which to "fix" the car, and i agree that different people have different ears....the whole thing just seems fishy to me.....
if you can come up to north jersey i can help you out. i'll bring you to the place i get mine done. i think its only like 70 or 80 bucks. just pm me and let me know.
well considering when you have a car that wont pass NJ inspection with amount of stuff we have done. you pay not just to get inspection but to have it passed. they overlook things like tints, exhausts, lights, all that shit. sometme they dont even use your car to do the emissions test. if you like your car and dont feel like taking everything off to go to state inspection and put everything back on yo have to pay a little to get it passed. i'd rather pay 70 then drive my car around without inspection sticker.
that sounds like a good idea...cuz all day i was considering taking the car to a muffler shop and having them flange on a quiet muff, and getting some stock taillights from a junkyard or something, but that would prolly cost me more than gas and the inspection if ur guy can def pass the thing....
