what the heck is this

alright my sister got the car in an accident so me and my dad were fixing the front end and well we "forgot" to put something back in for the intake .... well i dont know what this thing is it connects on the piping before the cleaner box and well it confuses the heck out of me ......

oh ok, well next question would be can i take some piping (i hear dryer hose would work) and pipe the fitting from that to the bummper and really make a cheap not so effective CAI also block off the part thats behind the headlamp , pipe that too????

it sounds a slight bit more deeper but i dont know if it was the k&n i thew in there at the same time since the intake sucked up the broken glass and plastic from when the head lamp broke, also which o2 sensor is the one that gives the error code p0135 on the 96 v6?

it's a resonator not a charcoal canister. the charcoal canister is in the engine bay and has 2 small hoses on it.
